Do Adventists believe Ellen G. White and her writings to be as important as God and the Bible?

Adventists do not believe Ellen G. White and her writings are as important as God and the Bible.

Seventh-day Adventists treasure the Bible as their only creed. They believe it is God’s message to humankind and it contains all that people need to know about God, salvation and the basic principles for human relationships. Read more about what Adventists believe.

Adventists believe Ellen G. White had the spiritual gift of prophecy. She is the most translated woman in literature and the most translated American author of either gender. An uneducated and frail woman, she managed to write over 5,000 articles, 40 books and 50,000 pages of manuscripts. Her God-inspired writings on health and temperance were ground-breaking. But she encouraged Adventists to turn to the Bible as the only source of truth, the source of “greater light”. “Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light.” (Ellen G. White, Colporteur Evangelism, p. 37)

Ellen G. White was also a widely respected public speaker. She addressed issues such as civil rights, the opposition of slavery during the Civil War in America and temperance and lifestyle practices.
