God's Promises Through Our Senses

When God speaks to you through your senses, His messages are immediate.

Taste

You can understand that God loves and cares for you through promises that talk about taste so that the sweetness of this experience is meaningful.

Psalms 34:8 (NIV)
"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him."

It is a sweet experience spending time with the Lord, and learning to know Him. As you do this, your appetite for His company will grow.

Psalms 119:103 (NIV)
"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!"
There is never a sour taste to your relationship with God, for your experience with Him will ever grow sweeter. That's the way He works.

Hear

God wants you to hear His voice and be assured that His ear is always ready to listen to you and His heart to respond.

2 Chronicles 20:9 (NIV)
"If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will Hear us and save us."

Not only will God hear your voice, but He will speak to you so that you can hear His voice of encouragement and know that He will come to your rescue.

Psalms 4:3 (NIV)
'Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD will hear when I call to Him."

You can be assured that whenever you call to God that He is ready to hear you. He is never too busy to pay attention to your needs.

Isaiah 65:24
"Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear."
Because God can read your heart and He is tuned to your needs, He is already answering your pleas before you call on Him. What a wonderful, caring God!

See

God wants you to see the evidences of the love and help He has promised you.

Exodus 7:1 (NIV)
"Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet."

God wants to open your eyes to the amazing things He does for you, His child. So often you may not see His blessing and miss out on the wonder of His presence and gifts.

Exodus 14:13 (NIV)
"And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will show to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever."

Just look at what God is doing to demolish the problems in your own life. Our fear is unfounded when God is with you. He wants to set you free. Isn't that great news?!

Job 31:4 (NIV)
"Does he not see my ways and count my every step?"
Although there are millions of people on this earth, God knows you personally and takes a special interest in every little aspect of my life. What assurance that is of His love and care for you!

Smell

The Creator of lavender, roses and other aromatic plants, assures us through this sense, that He considers you a sweet perfume. Let's move closer to Him.

2 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)
"For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."

Among the sorrow, destruction and death of this world, God delights in being close to His children who are like a sweet perfume to Him among the decay of this world. Yes, that perfume is you!

Ephesians 5:2 (NIV)
"And live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God"
Jesus' death was like a beautiful perfume to God the Father, because it meant that you and I could be saved, and that delights His Heart. It should delight our hearts also.

Touch

The touch of affection you enjoy can be applied to God and you, as His touch comforts you, delights you and even heals you.

Luke 24:39
"Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see..." (Jesus is talking to Thomas after He had been resurrected.)

When Thomas' faith was too weak to comprehend the resurrection, Jesus suggested that the doubting disciple, reach out and touch Him. In your days of doubt, God not only reaches out to touch you, He invites you to reach out and touch Him.

Matthew 9:21 (NIV)
"She said to herself, 'If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed."
It was the touch of faith that brought healing to this woman who had suffered for years. All it took was for her to reach out and connect with God. That is all that it will take for you and me too.

Deuteronomy 5:15 (NIV)
"Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm...."
There are times when you may feel unable to do anything to change your circumstances, and then God reaches out and rescues us from an intolerable situation. Praise Him for His powerful arm and His powerful love which touches you and changes your life.

Promises of Comfort

You can be sure of comfort when you turn to God. No matter what your problem, He has promised to be there for you.

Matthew 11:28,30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in Heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Like a parent who scoops up a tired, grubby child and comforts them, then cares for them and places them tenderly into a clean bed, so God cares for you when we are unutterably weary and your life seems out of control.

Romans 8:38, 39 (NIV)
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
When you know the love and comfort of a relationship with God, you need little else. It is like a perfect marriage.

Lamentations 3:22, 23 (NIV)
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
You can count on God's love for He is there for you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This beats any insurance policy this world can offer. Besides it comes with His promise of love.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)
"But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one."
You can trust Him when people let you down. He will protect you from the enemy and give you strength beyond your humanness for His strength can be yours.

Psalms 27:3 (NIV)
"Though an army besiege me, my Heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident."
No matter what bad stuff happens, you can be sure that God cares for you. There is no need for you to stress for God will take control.

Proverbs 3:6 (NIV)
"In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."
When you do not know how to take the next step, God will be with you and show you the way to go.

God is Reliable

Romans 8:37 (NIV)
"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

When you have no way out, the God who loves you will miraculously make you a winner. After all He is the greatest winner of all time. He takes pride in your winning!

Nahum 1:7 (NIV)
"The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him."

So you want relief from the pressures of life? God will do that as you pass Him your troubles. When He says, "Trust me!" you can believe it.

Ephesians 3:20, 21 (NIV)
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

God's loving power is beyond your imagination. Just ask Him to Help and comfort you. Your fantasies cannot take in what He has planned to make you whole and happy.

Zechariah 13:9 (NIV)
"....I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, 'They are my people,' and they will say, 'The Lord is our God.'"

How easy is that? If you feel worthless, just call out to God who sees in you a treasure and will make you one. O, the process may be a trifle painful but it will be well worth it. You will be priceless.

Psalms 27:10 (NIV)
"Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me."

No matter how alone and rejected you may feel by those close to you, you can be sure that God will always accept you and keep you close to His Heart. You are an important part of His family. Praise Him for that!

Hebrews 11:33 (NIV)
"Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised..."

Hold that key of faith tightly in your hand. For faith in your Saviour [Jesus], who conquered sin and death, is yours to grasp and cling to for victory. When He promises, you can be sure He delivers.

Jesus Our Friend

Thank God for friends with whom we can share. Even more meaningful is having Jesus as our Friend. It is a friendship which is warm, caring and totally necessary in our lives.

John 4:14 (KJV)
"But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give Him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give Him shall be in Him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

Water is necessary for life. In this metaphor, Jesus promises to supply your basic spiritual needs so that you can have a vibrant life in Him. There is not only abundance overflowing but you can continue to enjoy it now and in Heaven. Drink this every day [by reading the Bible and praying], be alive, grow and flourish.

Luke 24:36
"While they were still talking about this, Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them 'Peace be with you.'"

When the circumstances of your life seem to be so confronting that you fear that you will not survive, Jesus is near you and promises peace as He takes control of your life. You just have to accept His help.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."

You may always be positive, for you are assured that your God, the all powerful and all loving God, is going to stay by your side. There is no place for fear in your Heart when you and God are in partnership.

Psalms 23:1 (NIV)
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

What a promise! God will look after you. He knows what you need for food, for shelter, for comfort, for daily care and strength. You have everything provided for you by God's love. With such a Shepherd you are free from worry and can live joyfully.

Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God"

You can be sure of God's salvation for you. You cannot earn it. It is His gift of love to you because He wants to have you live with Him forever. All you need to do is to accept that wonderful gift. Believe it is yours, and it will be yours. There is no point system for you to slave over. You are free to enjoy your relationship with the gift giver.

Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
"Being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ"

When you have Christ living in your heart you can look forward to a growing experience in Him as He opens up your mind to new truths and new attitudes and you become more like Him. This is a work that He promises to do in you if you are willing to let Him. How can you refuse?

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."

If you are anxious about something, then you can be sure that God's love is big enough to enfold you with caring arms. All you have to do is give Him your worries. He is the problem solver with the perfect answer.

Promises of Eternity

Matthew 28:20 (KJV)
"...lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

We can be confident that God's presence and blessing will be with us right through our lives on this earth and into the next era He has planned for us. We will never be left alone without Him. We can constantly rely on His grace, His mercy and His strength.

Revelation 22:14 (KJV)
"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

If we follow God's guidelines for living on this earth, we can be assured of life with God in His celestial city where peace, joy and love fill each heart and life. This is a promise forever from our forever Friend.

Revelation 21:4, 5 (NIV)
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful."
What a promise of a new life without all the nasties you may have to face in your present situation. Take hope and let your mind think of a life where everything brings joy. It will be a reality because God has promised it! You can count on Him.
