A religious television station will soon to be launched in the country.

This follows the approval of a television license application from the Seventh-day Adventist Church by the Television Board.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has been seeking the board’s approval since last year to broadcast their own television station in the country.

A Television Board spokesperson told the Solomon Star yesterday that the approval was given during the first meeting of the newly appointed Television Board.

There are currently six members in the Television Board who were appointed in February.

According to the board’s spokesperson there were some who were reappointed from the former board.

Names of the board members could not be immediately revealed.

The spokesperson said apart from the application from the Seventh-day Adventist Church there are no other applications received by the new board.

With the approval, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is soon to start erecting a tower at the Kukum Seventh-day Adventist Church and Office compound to relay transmission of its new service.

If this is up and running, it will be the third television license operator in the country. The others are Our Telekom and TBN Trinity Channel.

Our Telekom operates three channels using the VHF channel, which broadcasts the ABC, and BBC channels.

Through the UHF channel Our Telekom broadcasts One News and other ABC channels.

The spokesperson warns that any other additional channels operating in the country must have licence granted by the board.

He said a review will soon be conducted because some of the current channels are not being maximised to broadcast local contents.

"If any member of the public has any complaints about the contents of the TV channels they should lodge their complaints in writing to us for investigation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Spectrum Robert Bokelema is currently out of the country in Japan on study leave and could not be reached for additional comments.
