On 4 July 2008, a team of people from Western Australia will be leaving for Arvayheer, Mongolia, to enable the church and community members to set up their own small businesses to help them earn their own income.
The team is part of Mission Mongolia, which has been running mission trips to Arvayheer since 2005. The purpose of these trips has been to establish and grow the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Arvayheer.
Over the past three years, they have built three playgrounds, painted a classroom for deaf children and have given out food and clothing to the very poor.
Previous teams have started and continue to fund a weekly kindergarten, where about 30 children are cared for and get a free meal per week. They also run and continue to fund a five-day-a-week free meal program for poor children to get a healthy meal.
Eighteen people will go on this year’s trip in July, with most from the Seventh-day Adventist College in Carmel. The team for 2008 will be led by Pastor Glenn Townend, president of the Adventist Church in Western Australia.
Every member of the team has to pay for their own airfares and raise money for each trip, as well as the ongoing programs that have been set up.
