Adventist education acknowledges an infinite, personal God who is the source of all life, truth, beauty and what is of value. It is founded on a belief that God has provided insights into His character through the life of Jesus, the Bible, and what He has created. As created beings, it sees humans as dependent on God for such insights and understandings in order to know how to grow, function and develop in keeping with His ideal for mankind - cognitively, morally, aesthetically, physically, socially and spiritually. This is important because of humanity's fall through sin, and the need for restoration.
The curriculum is seen as contributing to the restoration process. This is supported by a comprehensive range of key learning areas (or KLAs) covering knowledge and learning experiences designed to facilitate holistic development - mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, creatively and socially. These KLAs represent facets of God's creation, how each aspect functions, how the elements within them interrelate, or how humans might behave in response.
These learning areas represent "windows" in two senses - "windows" through which students may gain views of God's character and action, or "windows of opportunity" to respond to God in ways that reflect His character and the values that are part of His Kingdom. Although each KLA stands with its own distinctive form and character, it may be studied in its own right. On other occasions it may be integrated with others, thus acknowledging holism in God's created order.
Adventist schools teach the various KLAs required by state authorities, but they are contextualised in such a way to reflect the qualities and values described above.
