Did you know
...smoking is the single largest cause of premature and preventable deaths in developed countries?
> In developing countries smoking ranks third after infectious diseases and malnutrition?
> In 2002 there were 10 million deaths due to smoking?
> Long term smokers lose an average of 20 years of life?

Seventh-day Adventists have successfully run Quit
Now! programs for many years.
It followed on from the world famous 5 Day Plan to Stop Smoking which began in the 1960's.

Overview

Research shows smokers move through a series of stages when quitting. QUIT Now! acts as a guide through each stage. The program uses group activities and simple strategies to help smokers beat their addiction. The program consists of eight sessions over two weeks.

It involves seven steps:

1. Preparing to quit:
This is sometimes one of the most neglected steps to quitting smoking.

2. It's time to quit:
This is D-Day. All smoking stops at a pre-selected time.

3. Conquering nicotine addiction:
This helps smokers understand the way nicotine affects their bodies.

4. Choosing new habits:
This helps smokers replace their smoking habits.

5. Living smoke free:
Physically removing a cigarette from the mouth takes a moment. Eliminating cigarettes from the mind may take years.

6. Staying stopped:
Why does a person who has stopped smoking go back to their habit?

7. Winning at life:
This final step in quitting is about becoming a life-long non-smoker.
