Supporting Physical and Spiritual Well-Being
The Health Ministries of the Seventh-day Adventist Church seeks to educate, inspire and empower individuals to reach their optimal health and wellbeing, physical, mental and spiritual.
HEALTH Ministries History
“Each journey begins with a single, transformative moment; for our local church Health Ministries, that moment was a health crisis in 1863 that crippled our emerging organization. This crisis acted as a catalyst for a groundbreaking vision—one that shifted the healthcare paradigm towards prevention and whole-person wellness.
Our inaugural health centers, known as sanitariums, became more than just treatment facilities; they were holistic learning environments where entire families discovered the keys to well-being.
Evolving from those roots, our Health Ministries have grown to encompass a broad spectrum of wellness endeavors. We’ve ventured into research, built medical facilities, led public health campaigns, such as combating smoking, and even contributed to the birth of the health food industry.
Today’s local church Health Ministries go beyond mere physical health. We’ve integrated a sevenfold approach to well-being—encompassing physical, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and vocational dimensions. This all-encompassing perspective is not merely an extension of our original, ‘radical’ vision—it is its modern-day manifestation.
Our mission remains steadfast: to be beacons of holistic health within our communities, continually expanding our reach through educational initiatives, evidence-based programs, and meaningful community engagement.”
