RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Advocate for Religious Liberty

Championing religious freedom as a fundamental human right, and supporting individuals in their pursuit of spiritual expression.

Discover our Work in Religious Liberty

The Religious Liberty department of the Australian Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church operates as an active advocate for religious liberty, embodying our belief in the God-given human right to freely practice one’s faith. Regardless of an individual’s beliefs, we strive to support those facing discrimination or persecution for their convictions. We proudly serve as a beacon for religious freedom, maintaining dialogue with state leaders and public officials, representing the interests of the Adventist Church, and organising events to uphold religious freedom.

Three Key Focal Points

Diplomacy: We foster relationships with government leaders and public officials, advocating for religious freedom and representing the interests of the Adventist Church.

Events: We organize and participate in events that promote religious freedom, including academic symposiums and festivals. Every five years, we host the World Congress for Religious Freedom, attracting hundreds of public officials, lawyers, NGOs, and religious leaders globally.

Communication: Regular publications keep our church members informed about religious freedom issues. This includes news reports, academic papers, books, and an annual World Report on Religious Freedom.

Religious Liberty Sabbath

Every third Sabbath of January is recognised as “Religious Liberty Sabbath,” a day to reflect on the importance of safeguarding and promoting our most precious freedom—religious liberty. We encourage all our members to join us in lifting the profile of the Adventist Church and spreading the word about the importance of religious liberty.
